There are people in
our lives that make an
impact on us.
A lot of those just
happen to be teachers.
Here is a chance to say
thanks.
Please tell us who you are.
Schools were closed, then opened, then closed and opened again. Kids were sent home to quarantine and Zoom classrooms became all the norm. Teachers did as best they could. Parents, caught off guard, put in that extra effort to support their children’s learning. Often it was an overwhelming experience. But parents and teachers came to see each other in a new light.

Now with schools open and teachers back in class, it's time to reflect on what we've all been through and how we've depended on each other. And now, on World Teachers Day, let's throw teachers a well-deserved 'thank you.'
"On behalf of Alberta's teachers, thank you, parents for all you have done over the last 18 months to help support learning to continue."
– Jason Schilling, ATA President

    R. Glenn Martin, now departed.
    Professor of Secondary Education—English, U of A.
In one year, he fine-tuned my fledgling knowledge of how to teach the subject before I went into the classroom.
He was wise beyond his years and had once been in a class taught by Robert Frost at Harvard.
I later had the pleasure of giving the eulogy at his funeral some years back.

Caring, knowledgeable teachers in a great public school system helped me to realize the importance of learning, equity, and respect in a civil society.
    Thank you!

A very sincere thank you to all the teachers of Alberta for the amazing job you are doing at this very difficult time. We often mention to our retired teacher friends how lucky we are to be retired and not having to deal with teaching during a pandemic. Keep up the awesome work you are doing!!

I always wanted to be a teacher. Looking at the challenges they face now I would question if I would ever want to do that again. My son is a teacher and I see the countless hours that he puts in, the constant struggle to try and be both councillor and teacher. Trying to figure out what it is that kids need and not getting caught up in all the media frenzy. Today I celebrate that there are those brave souls that will still accept the challenge of trying to teach our children how to think for themselves and not just use google etc. How to debate and how to look at all sides. That is why we still need teachers.

I’m retired now. Although teaching was my primary occupation, I worked in the aviation industry in my spare time so I do have a variety of perspectives. Although the definition of “professional” has changed over the years, teachers fit the true sense of the word. I’m always proud to call myself a teacher and I’m still in awe with how good teachers adapt to such difficult and changing circumstances. Great work teachers. I know it’s hard to step back and view your job in the grand picture but in my view you’re one of the keystones of our democracy.

Many of my memories of childhood involve school and teachers. They are good memories, of being cared about, inspired and safe. The same is true of many of the teachers my son had in his schooling. Bless all of you!

Thank you for standing up to the “bully” while working under incredibly difficult conditions. We were fighting against under funding, class sizes, the unfunded liability etc. fifteen years ago when I was teaching. Nothing seems to change unless it is an attempt to become even more regressive. Thankfully, we have regained some control over our pension fund thanks to strong protests from current teachers, retirees, and the ATA. Unfortunately, the fight to maintain a world class education curriculum, working conditions, and fair compensation continues to be a challenge. Keep up the good fight. Hopefully, the membership will remember that their most powerful tool to protect and improve education will come in about 18 months at the ballot box.

Thank you for all you do. You have really come through by taking on the extra load with so many extra tasks. Just to mention a few, sanitizing, enforcing distancing, extra supervision not to mention dealing with the mental health of your students who have many concerns now, a class with even more diverse needs academically.
So few realize how much you do.
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AFTER OUR CHILDREN

You are so appreciated and admired for all you do, every day, to help our children learn and be the best they can be. Even with all the challenges of the pandemic and limited resources, you strive to carry on for their sakes and the betterment of all communities!

Thank you Mrs. Ray my junior high math teacher, whose skills aaproach to teaching mathematics gave me my future career.
I know she no longer with us but I am sure there is a special place in Heaven for for teachers like her who make kids feel capable of learning the tough stuff.

As a retired teacher, I understand the daily commitment needed to provide education for students. In our uncertain times, your work has been made more difficult. I today and everyday honour the work of teachers in our province, country, and around the world.

Thanks to my wife who teaches grade 3. Also thanks to the kids, that she teaches, it makes an otherwise taxing and stressful job (admin, politics, economy and geography all are factors that make the job tough).

Also thanks to the teachers who put up with all my antics as a student, and to those that should be having a slightly easier time with my Children in grade 6 and 8.

    Thanks to all teachers!!!!!
