There are people in
our lives that make an
impact on us.
A lot of those just
happen to be teachers.
Here is a chance to say
thanks.
Please tell us who you are.
Schools were closed, then opened, then closed and opened again. Kids were sent home to quarantine and Zoom classrooms became all the norm. Teachers did as best they could. Parents, caught off guard, put in that extra effort to support their children’s learning. Often it was an overwhelming experience. But parents and teachers came to see each other in a new light.

Now with schools open and teachers back in class, it's time to reflect on what we've all been through and how we've depended on each other. And now, on World Teachers Day, let's throw teachers a well-deserved 'thank you.'
"On behalf of Alberta's teachers, thank you, parents for all you have done over the last 18 months to help support learning to continue."
– Jason Schilling, ATA President

Today with so many stresses in the classroom, and the addition of a pandemic, I salute your courage and resiliency. Thank you for teaching me to be a good person, a global citizen and a life-long learner. You should all be paid rock-star wages and shown the respect you deserve every day!

To all teachers, who do so much more than just teach! A great deal goes on behind the scenes in the interest of helping kids succeed that the public is often unaware of.

THANK YOU!! Thank you for going through the ups and downs with our children. Especially throughout the last couple years with Covid. Thank you for being there to comfort and listen to my children when they need you and to guide them and teach them, not only school subjects but also how to be a good person. You are all amazing. 💕

Despite her many personal challenges endured by her and so many in the Fort McMurray community, my daughter-in-law Amanda Hoblak continually strives to make a difference in the lives of the young students she feels priviledged to teach. We are proud of you.

My grade one teacher, Lydia Yeomans, changed my life. We were her first post-grad class. She was effervescent, loving and made every day a thrill. Her smile lit up the room and I remember being made to feel as though we were the most treasured humans on the planet when we were in her classroom.

Amazingly, she was also my grade seven teacher and I felt the exact same way. She always had time to talk, to answer questions, and treated us with such care.

Many years later when I was completing my Education degree I ran into her at the U of A as she was touring high school students on campus. I was immediately transported to my six-year old self, and was filled with gratitude for all that she did to make me feel so special.

I’m now a Principal and remember her so fondly. Thank you Mrs. Yeomans for setting me on a path that defined my life.

Huge thanks to Hooda Hassen at Olympic Heights school in Calgary. She made a huge difference in my son’s life last school year. Without her, I don’t think he’d be attending school at all this year.

I’d like to thank Diane Duncan who helped me see the potential in myself as a high school drop out and single mom taking academic upgrading. She convinced me I was smart enough and able to go to university and receive two degrees. One of which was my education degree. As a teacher now, I will always remember how Diane made me feel confidence in myself.
    Thank you, Diane!
