There are people in
our lives that make an
impact on us.
A lot of those just
happen to be teachers.
Here is a chance to say
thanks.
Please tell us who you are.
Schools were closed, then opened, then closed and opened again. Kids were sent home to quarantine and Zoom classrooms became all the norm. Teachers did as best they could. Parents, caught off guard, put in that extra effort to support their children’s learning. Often it was an overwhelming experience. But parents and teachers came to see each other in a new light.

Now with schools open and teachers back in class, it's time to reflect on what we've all been through and how we've depended on each other. And now, on World Teachers Day, let's throw teachers a well-deserved 'thank you.'
"On behalf of Alberta's teachers, thank you, parents for all you have done over the last 18 months to help support learning to continue."
– Jason Schilling, ATA President

I had so many positive interactions with teachers during my school years. Because of those experiences, I enrolled in the Faculty of Education. After 40 years in schools and division office, I witnessed countless amazing teachers making a difference. Thank you to our teachers for making such an impact on students.

I saw it years ago when my kids were in school; I see it now with my grandchildren in school: teachers have impact! Their impact goes beyond the classroom, beyond the grade, beyond the school…and is carried into the community today, tomorrow and for years to come. Thank you, one and all!

Dear teachers, what a crazy almost two years it has been!! Through it all, you have kept your focus on your students, their learning and their well-being, as you navigate craziness and unbelievable teaching conditions. Your students are so blessed to have you! My wish for you is that you can let go of some of the volunteer ‘jobs’ that teachers have traditionally taken on that sometimes take away from the work you do with kids and from your own time and energy. Please make self-care a priority so that you can continue your great work with our kids and I will continue to advocate for decent working and learning conditions for you and your students. Many, many thanks!

I am a retired elementary school teacher. I cannot imagine the stress and strain on teachers these past two years. You have my utmost respect and gratitude for your hard work on behalf of Alberta’s children and youth. My grandchildren are thriving at school (and last year on-line) due to your dedication to education (and despite our provincial government’s fumbling). I thank you on World Teachers’ Day and everyday.

Wanted to share my immense gratitude for my current and former teachers, and my current teacher colleagues that work in the profession. I think it’s a front row seat to the greatest show on earth!

Thank you for carrying on with enthusiasm and professionalism during such trying and life threatening times. You are the lifeline for many kids who need to have a distraction from their real lives for a few hours each day. As a retired teacher, my hat goes off to you – I cant imagine the stress level you’re under every day. Someone reminded me recently that this is the third school year that has been impacted – that is huge! Hang in there and know that you are appreciated by former teachers immensely. XOXO

As a retired primary teacher, I’ve watching with trepidation and admiration the efforts teachers have put into teaching their students. You’ve gone the extra mile to give your students a quality education in a exhaustive and scary time. Thank you so much for teaching in your classrooms when you could and also online a lot of the time. I so understand and admire what you have done and are continuing to do. Please take some rest and quiet times for yourselves whenever you can and have heart, all of us out here and rooting for you. Jean Cofell, Retired teacher, Northern Gateway School Div., Valleyview, AB.

Thank you to all the Alberta Teachers who are excellent models of kindness, compassion, resiliency and professionalism yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Our children are better as a result of all your hard work throughout these last couple years. Thank you for working with us, the families, to ensure that safety, personal responsibility and most of all humanity remain at the forefront of learning.

Thank you to all Alberta teachers for your exceptional efforts to educate students during the Covid crisis. You have been on the front lines without enough government support or recognition. You have made students a priority and adapted to numerous changing and difficult circumstances. In many cases you have put your own health at risk by entering classrooms where some or all students are unvaccinated. Although it may appear that your efforts go unnoticed, you are making a significant difference in the lives and futures of our most precious resource.

Thank you to all the teachers who battled through the sudden changes in teaching format (online, off-line, and in person with mask,) during COVID. I think any parent who had to work from home and supervise their child as well appreciated what you do.
Thank you all for keeping our students engaged during this difficult time.

Thank you teachers! Even though I’m almost 20 years out of high school, I can still hear my math teacher’s voice loud and clear:

    “Expand your horizons!”
    “Nose to the grindstone!”

I remember her jumping up on a desk to just really make sure we were paying attention to those messages.

As students, we couldn’t help but catch the wave of your enthusiasm. Thank you!
