There are people in
our lives that make an
impact on us.
A lot of those just
happen to be teachers.
Here is a chance to say
thanks.
Please tell us who you are.
Schools were closed, then opened, then closed and opened again. Kids were sent home to quarantine and Zoom classrooms became all the norm. Teachers did as best they could. Parents, caught off guard, put in that extra effort to support their children’s learning. Often it was an overwhelming experience. But parents and teachers came to see each other in a new light.

Now with schools open and teachers back in class, it's time to reflect on what we've all been through and how we've depended on each other. And now, on World Teachers Day, let's throw teachers a well-deserved 'thank you.'
"On behalf of Alberta's teachers, thank you, parents for all you have done over the last 18 months to help support learning to continue."
– Jason Schilling, ATA President

Having been a teacher myself, I understand some of what teachers are facing these days. Thank you for all you do for my grandkids (one in K, two in grade 7 and one in grade 9) and for kids in every classroom in the world.

As a mom of 4 different learners, now ranging in age from almost 29 years old down to 15 years old, I’ve been a parent within the public education system here in Calgary for a long time! I am also a lifelong Albertan. My kids have been in the main stream programs as well as alternative programs.

There are so many names I would love to thank but that list is truly almost EVERY teacher I’ve had the pleasure of knowing!

Thank You is not enough. Thank You will never be enough! As a participating parent in the education process through countless volunteer hours I have personally witnessed the patience, organization, dedication and passion of our Alberta teachers and faculty. They are human, they to are learning, growing and they are there for our kids because it matters to them! Like parenting, teaching can almost assuredly feel thankless some days! Trying to balance the politics and expectations with passion and knowing what’s right for individual learners is nothing less than exhausting. As a huge supporter of Alternative programs and our beautiful, dedicated, non traditional teachers I am so grateful to live in Alberta. To have options for my different learners and to have flexibility in their curriculum for my children to not only voice but explore their strengths has been a huge joy to watch my learners grow in confidence! From the Spanish Immersion, the GATE, the Arts Centered Learning and the Science Alternative programs my children gained community perspective and inclusion. While they had their struggles they were never alone because our teachers ARE outstanding human beings who deserve nothing less than memorials upon each and every one of their retirements! Thank You doesn’t feel like enough but a HUGE Thank YOU shouted from a mountain top may come close! THANK YOU :-)

As a retired teacher I know first hand how very hard teachers work. However, I am so impressed with the creativity and fearsome dedication you have all shown during the past year and a half. With no end in sight! What an extraordinary task!

Thank you on behalf of all the students I loved and for my grandchildren.

For their futures and ours in your capable hands, we applaud you.

Thank you Dr. McCall for creating a questioning atmosphere in chemistry and social studies. I followed in his footsteps as a teacher and textbook author, combining the science and social studies perspectives with a broad and deep world view. He shaped my thinking and opened up a new world of ideas, beyond the conservative curriculum.

To all teachers across this province of Alberta- You have shown the work ethic, the caring for students and the creativity that teachers have been doing for years. This is so admirable that teachers have never changed in the way they have treated their profession and the duty they pay to the students under their jurisdiction. Also kudos to those teachers who took on the responsibility of those students who remained at home and you still did a fantastic job giving them an excellent program and in keeping them excited about learning, My grandson was part of that program and talked excitedly to me on a regular basis. Thanks for being the people who really put their professional duties ahead of so many other things that you could have done.Bless you and stay safe, This is not over yet. Unfortunately.
